The Garmin Morocco Topographic Map
The map is provided in MapSource format.
For a simple installation of both the overlay and road map, the best thing you can do is select the 'Self-installing .exe version'.
Old versions before 11 november 2006 must be uninstalled first due to too many differences in the new map. Normally an uninstall.exe should be available. If this is not the case, you can remove the map manually by launching 'regedit' and removing the following key from the registry:
Manual installation: Download the .zip file and unzip the files to:
'Status' of the map
License information
The map is free for personal usage. You may create as many copies as you want, send them to friends, whatever, but you are not allowed to sell the map. And any derived works underly the same restriction.
Formally this is achieved using the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 2.0 License. A copy of this license should be included in the download package.
REMARK: The map can use YOUR HELP! If you have GPS tracks available, waypoint ans 'Points of Interest' (villages, hotels, markets, ...) they may enhance the detail of the map. So with your 'help' we mean sending in waypoints and tracks. For more information please send an e-mail to Olaf: !

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Garmin\MapSource\Products\03000090DO NOT try this is you have no clue on what you are doing!
Manual installation: Download the .zip file and unzip the files to:
C:\myMaps\Maroc-TopoDouble click the registry file:
Maroc-Topo.regThe only thing you need to do now is start MapSource and enjoy using the map! As said earlier, take the manual step ONLY if you know what you are doing. If not, just use the 'Self-installing .exe' version, it's easier!
'Status' of the map
- The map tiles now cover whole "Mainland Morocco". "Western Sahara" is only covered up to Laayounne and Semara (more accurate: up to latitude N25)
- 50m contour lines are included in the "topo overlay"
- "Major highways" (blue in Mapsource) should be four laned roads or broader
- "Other Highway roads" (red in Mapsource) should be asphalted
- "Arterial roads" (thick black lines) are probably asphalted, otherwise more or less easy to travel
- "Collector roads" (thin black lines) are rather difficult tracks
- "Unpaved roads" (dashed lines) are off-road connectors
- Most of the roads are measured with GPS accuracy. On higher zoom levels, additional uncategorized, non GPS measured roads from VMAP0 pop up
- Road numbers and names are taken from the Michelin paper map

IMPORTANT:
- We are not responsible if your computer breaks down while installing the map;
- We are not responsible if your GPS stops working while uploading the map (although this has never occurred!);
- We are not responsible if you use the map as a 100% accurate basis and might get lost or get in trouble while using the map. Everyone who uses a GPS unit should be able to navigate also WITHOUT a GPS unit. In other words: always have old school backup in the form of a compass and use your 'common sense' when navigating;
